- YouTube. You can buy them yourself for $10-20.You might as well just get a 16” pro on sale if you’re already good spending another $200 for a 13” and it definitely will stay reliableI would like it if the next update gave all “Pro” versions 4 ports (only 2 on the air), and the screen gets updated to reduce the bezel (14 inch is a good compromise).iirc it was like this last year too. Might be worth waiting a few weeks to see what Apple has up their sleeve.Yeah, I mean that would pull some more performance but the big problem is it's still holding on to 10+ year old parts which makes me concerned about longevity.

However, when tested in actual GPU performance (UH), the pro outperformed it.In my opinion, assuming you’re planning on keeping it for a significant amount of time, the higher end model is a no-brainer.

Adding a heat pipe isn't gonna turn the Air into a Pro, what it will do is extend longevity due to not running at 100C half the time and maybe have a 20% increase in performance. This is the base vs base, however, throughout he does compare it to the i5 he tested previously and found its heat limits performance. Time to compare all this variability side by side. I have an almost 6 years old MacBook Pro and I would love to change it for a new 13-inch MacBook. I work professionally as a filmmaker and video artist and shoot 4k raw video 99% of the time with a Blackmagic camera.

Also I wonder how much of a difference the desktop class CPUs in the mini make vs the laptop.I work away from home ~25% of the time (pre-covid) and currently just have a shit experience using a 15" MBP from 2012.

As far as I can tell my other options would hit around 4-5k.I would advise to pick up a MacBook Pro 16 as the MacBook Pro has a dedicated GPU, which helps you with your video editing work and is mobile, where as the Mac mini is cheaper overall it has only an integrated GPU and of course can only be used with an external monitor.

GPU is closer. Just FYI I use a 16” MacBook Pro at work and they weigh less than the old retina models.

The CPU scores are not even close.

That $200 price difference would work out to basically $33/year for all of those upgrades.I hate Apple for splitting the 13-inch MacBook Pro line in two. Can we please have something a little more insightful on this Reddit?

Higher margins by not making it an option in the first place.Just pretend the base model MBP13 doesn’t exist. From most of the research I've done online, it seems not to be.

The better heat sink/fan and speakers are great, not sure why they weren't mentioned at release.I'm very interested in a comparison between a higher specced 2020 MBA and the lower specced 2020 MBP at the same price point. If you upgrade to 512GB of storage and 16GB of RAM, you’re at $1,599. 2020 base macbookpro vs i7 2020 air? share.

Depends on your travel options but a MBP 16 is very good and you can add a egpu when you’re at home.Thank you all in advance for the advice, I so appreciate the help!At the moment this setup is perfect for my work and I have yet to see any slowdowns or issues with the computer. I would really hate to have a work drive disconnect while editing. It’ll be nice to start using a laptop again, my xps was a fucking paper weight.Interesting I thought the speakers were the same..I wish they had removed the lower end pro model completely, and lowered the $1799 model to ~$1599 and made a separate higher end model with dedicated graphics (like the 16'') for $1999.I would be fine if the airs were only dual cores, but they ran like champs and had sustained performance. Even if it was cooled with liquid nitrogen it's not supposed to run much faster than how it currently is.

And how about if I have the laptop hooked to an egpu 75% of the time, would the internal gpu really burn out that fast? Why not try to change CPUs in your MP ?

Do you sit at the same desk at home or at the office? **I am not interested in building a hackintosh or transitioning to a PC, I have tried both in the past and it's just not on the table this time around.

The OP linked Max Tech video shows that the 2020 MBP13 is 10-30% higher performance over the base model, has better speakers and has two fans instead of one. From what I've seen on reviews, it wouldn't be worth it to get the 2020 MBA if it's specced to the same price point as the 2020 MBP.

And there’s almost certainly a refresh right around the corner. Apple MacBook Pro vs. Dell XPS 13: In 2020, Which Is the Better 13-Inch Ultraportable? I have a 2015 15” at home and the 16” is like carrying a folder rather than an actual laptop.

$1299 vs $1799 2020 MacBook Pro 13" - Full Comparison! They also always used different wattage CPUs.It sucks that the i5 air gets the better CPU/integrated GPU combo for more of less the same price as the lower end pro but can't really use it for sustained period because of non-existent thermal solution.
