So creepy.I have put roughly 15-20 (unrushed) hours into this game so far, and I would agree this review is spot on. You can also go fishing in both regions, while the entire gambling system is linked to the pawn shops from previous titles in a much more engaging way. Newcomers will be utterly bemused by its slice of life-style idiosyncrasies, but for franchise fans this is the faithful follow-up that they’ve been waiting almost two decades for. For me this is a classic example of, if you dont like it, dont buy it.For full disclosure, readers should know that Sammy contributed $610 to Shenmue III's Kickstarter campaign.This is true time capsule stuff, with the game design left unaffected by the 18 years of advancement that have occurred since the series’ last outing. He also likes tennis games way more than you.Each of the locations possess the property’s trademark feature: locals are governed by their own schedules, meaning they’ll get up and go to work in the morning – and head home for dinner at night. Back in the early 2000s, the fate of the Shenmue series seemed bleak. While it looks nice enough, other aspects of the game don’t hold up as well.The numerous visual glitches, including people floating off the floor, or seeming to sit down on chairs that don’t exist, create the somewhat surreal feeling of a game that’s both been rushed, but also hidden away for a decade without any meaningful lessons learned from the maturation of gaming as a whole.The fights are a lot of fun, but are relatively rare in the early hours of the game. Returning characters will leave seasoned fans squealing, while many of the exchanges Ryo engages in are laugh out loud funny.I suppose you would want to take it all in at your own pace if you’d spent $610 on a game I still can't come to grips with the strange looking dreamcast faces in 2019. Much like Yokosuka in the original game, the sandbox opens up as you progress, revealing abandoned temples hidden by sunflower fields and small market stalls erected in wooden shacks.
