Its full richness and dark fruit are balanced with enough acidity that it paired beautifully with the steaks I grilled tonight; it’s been a while since I have enjoyed a young wine as much as this 2016 Cabernet Franc.
A few swirls of our 2016 Cabernet Franc allows all of the sweet cherry, dried cherry, dried herb, tobacco, and white pepper aromas to waft from the glass. It comes 59% from Napa county and 41%Sonoma county. Deep garnet-purple colored, it comes proudly prancing out of the glass with happy Morello cherries, baked raspberries, boysenberries and warm plums notes plus suggestions of pencil lead, red roses, black tea and bay leaves. Great w dirty rice, caramelized onion, blackened chicken livers, toasted pecans, creating extra complexity for the decadent goodness here. It’s medium to full-bodied, has terrific purity of fruit, sweet tannins, and the balance to evolve for 15 years or so. Still very young the ‘16 vintage from Pride offers bouquet of dark chocolate pretzels, brandied black cherries, menthol, and candied black plums. The 2016 vintage, in contrast to its contemporaries 2015 and 2017, was entirely drama-free.

This will be at its best in a year, and last for 5/6. A bit tight and rough at present, though should benefit from several more years of bottle aging Very highly recommended. We recently opened a 1998, 1999, 2000 vertical of our Cabernet Franc that were all sensational with perfect tannin resolution, the signature light-footedness across the palate, and lovely complex flavors; everything you could want from aging wine for 20 years.Medium-dark ruby; attractive, ripe, spicy, perfumed, dark cherry and blackberry fruit aroma with hints of dried herbs, mocha, sandalwood, and white pepper; full body; tight, textured, cedary, dark berry fruit flavors with spicy notes; full tannin; lingering aftertaste.
