That is why people are at the heart of our strategy. Winnie Byanyima has been the executive director of Oxfam International from 2013 to 2019. We believe everyone has a contribution to make, regardless of visible and invisible differences.Whether we are running life-saving emergency responses, life-changing development projects or campaigning at the grassroots to tackle poverty, Oxfam's work is always rooted in a vision of a world where women and men are valued and treated equally, able to influence the decisions that affect their lives and meet their responsibilities as full citizens. With your support, we provided life-saving supplies to families hit by the world’s worst conflicts and natural disasters.
And we helped communities around the world get clean water running, grow food, campaign for change – not just to fight poverty now, but to beat it for good. Through the period covered by the Plan, to 2019, we want to see consolidation of the gains that have been made over the past decade in reducing poverty, measured in terms of income levels as well as equality. Our Strategic Plan, The Power of People Against Poverty, reflects our priority to build equality among people in order to eliminate poverty and gives our work — from the beginning of 2014 through to the end of 2019 — a clear focus. It examines the key outcomes that Oxfam achieved across its change goals and analyzes the success of its approaches, using case studies from programs around the world and interviews with staff. We’ll help poor people adapt to shifting environmental conditions and ensure they are getting their fair share of scarce natural resources.
