Oirat mongols fought for independent mongol state and desired to recreate Mongol Empire in it's former size. Dzungar Khanate was not only the last mongol state, it wa also the last great nomadic empire, which was relevant and presented political/military power with which their neighbors had to consider. Obtaining peace on the western borders of the Younger Juz, and securing its rear was one of the main tasks of Abilqaiyr Khan. In 1737, after Sameke Khan of the Middle Juz died, he was replaced by Abilmambet.
