The Noble Canyon Trail stays about 100 feet above the creek in the lower part of the canyon, jogging east every time it needs to cross an incoming tributary … over very rugged terrain. Oh yeah, bring lot's of water and plenty GU and Cliff Bars for extra energy. Bootleg Canyon is known for its outstanding hiking trails, beautiful lake views, and some of the best mountain biking in the country. Downloading of trail gps tracks in kml & gpx formats is enabled for Noble Canyon.  Fast and smooth, chunky and technical, a little precipitous in some spots, Noble has everything you’d want in a spectacularly beautiful backcountry ride.  Don’t be fooled though, there is some climbing to be done at the outset/northern terminus and on the way down. Officially designated as a National Recreation Trail, it is 10 miles in length and is home to six different ecosystems.
You'll know it when you get there. Otherwise you'll be doing some "hike a bike".Half way up the fire road climb you'll have a nice rest stop under a massive tree.

This will take at least a couple hours so be sure to pack plenty of water.Noble Canyon is said to be one of the best mountain bike rides in San Diego. However, most of the more well-known spots in the state are located down south in Moab. For our first American installment of Trailhunter we visited Noble Canyon in the Cleveland Forest.  You can’t miss it.

It has a mix of everything. Ride East Mesa Fire Road south along Hwy 79 to a left turn and the start of a good climb.  If you park a vehicle as part of a shuttle from Penny Pines, where Noble starts up on the Sunrise Highway, you do not need a day pass. What's most unique about the area is it's vast variety of microclimates and dramatic landscape changes throughout the ride. Don’t be fooled though, there is some climbing to be done at the outset/northern terminus and on the way down.

If you really want to be king of the bragging rights club, you can climb up the single track to the top. It has a mix of everything. Once you get to the top you'll hit Sunrise Highway.  Note:  it can get very hot in the summer. The single track is way harder, but you get the most brownie points and bragging rights for it. And that’s why XEN MTB suggests starting Noble Canyon with a gentle ride through the Laguna Meadows. With the technical challenges kept to a minimum it's possible to enjoy the long views across the mountains.

Noble Canyon is a premier downhill ride in the county. Palo Duro Canyon State Park is the second largest in Texas after Big Bend Ranch State Park (which also has excellent mountain biking). Practice your tuck 'n roll moves too. Noble Canyon is said to be one of the best mountain bike rides in San Diego. The scenery represents an interesting lesson in geology, and you can see the handiwork of the CCC in the park architecture. Put them in your Camelbak until you need them for the downhill.
